This hub only on early PS3s and will not be studied on newer variants. Even if you are successful in this hack, you might not be permitted into the Play Station Network because of Sony’s new system. I discussed deleting this hub since it’s no longer legitimate, but I felt that the data, in general, was valuable and I didn’t want to delete it if Sony changed their mind. Below are the steps to turn your Playstation 3 into a gaming PC.

Get and Download Linux

There are PS3 emulators where you can download vulkan-1.dll file, and use it to turn your device into a PC. When you’ve got your stuff, you’ll want to put a copy of the operating system you’ll probably be on. Here’s a guide to setting up Yellow Dog PS3. You can buy a replica of Ubuntu pre-coded with the boot, but you’ll have to look it up online. Kboot is a specific tool that makes it easy to install Ubuntu on your PS3, so it’s an ideal situation to get it.

Prepare the PS3

I can’t stress this enough. If you don’t need to delete all of your progress in each of your games, then you need to copy your game saves. WARNING: This will not play your songs, movies, etc. This step will probably only play your game saves.

Replace the Hard Drives

storage diskIf you’ve decided to upgrade your hard drive to make it higher than the 40/60/80GB hard drive on your PS3, read on. To modernize the hard drive, you’ll need to see the Components and Hard Drive section. Find a horizontal, cleared surface, preferably a workbench, and place your PS3 on it.

Make sure you’re ready before working on your PS3. To do this, touch any reflective metal surface, or if you’re low to the ground, find the base of your house and touch it. If you already have one, you can also utilize an anti-static wristband, but these are rarely found at home. Remove the plastic cover and open the hard drive tray. Turn the drive over to the menu, then slide it into the PS3 and put the cover back on, then put the previous screw back on. The PS3 will automatically format the new drive.

Install the Operating System

This step is the hardest part of the whole procedure, but as you can see, it’s quite simple. Select “Quick Format” and restart the device when finished. Once the partition has been created, you can load the operating system onto the Ubuntu drive. Insert the drive and select “Configure Single OS” from the “Settings” menu. After installing Ubuntu, you may need to go back to the PS3’s system menu and select “OS added” under “Default OS.” The console will now boot with the burned disc and install Ubuntu.

Switch to Game Mode

To return the PS3 to its original state, you will need to restart the console. Your PS3 contains a working platform, and it may include applications. If you want to play PC online games, you might require to install a Windows emulator; you can also install unique programs that are available for a cheap price.
